memorial music to remember
where words fail, music speaks…
Music makes up the soundtrack of our lives. We may not even be cognizant of it at the time. A melody sung by a parent to provide comfort, a song played on repeat during a breakup, an anthem for days we need to be extra brave, or a tune ushering in a first dance. All indelibly engraved deep in our hearts with the ability to be recalled in a moment when we experience that song once more.
The music provided at a memorial should be done so with an appreciation for the magnitude and gravity of this power. I know many gifted and compassionate musicians. I also know that most people, even the most kind, are not comfortable at funerals or memorial services. What I hope to offer is not only music to fit your loved one’s service, but also a compassionate presence you can count on to hold space for whatever that day holds.
Funerals and memorial services serve as an opportunity for closure, a celebration of a life, and acknowledgment of the void that is left in our hearts when loved ones die. Whether an anticipated loss or a sudden, tragic one, the ritual of coming together to say “goodbye”, “see you later”, or simply “thank you” serves an important role in our grief process. This is why it is so important to me that this experience is curated to meet the needs of your family during this time.
why live music?
Professional
In these difficult and delicate moments surrounding your loved one’s passing, it is imperative that the people involved in their service have a level of expertise and understanding. More than just a professional musician, having a professional therapist in this role means no matter what that day holds, it will be met with professionalism, skill, and compassion.
Personalized
The music for every service is curated to honor your loved one in their own special way. Each song is personalized to capture the unique beauty and memory of their life. Live music enhances the experience by adding presence, pacing, and nuance to each note that cannot be achieved through recorded music.
Memorable
It can be hard to slow this time down to know what it is we will want to remember as we look back on our loved one’s service. Music has a way of bringing memories to the present moment and storing new moments in our minds and hearts. This serves an important role during this often tumultuous time.
